Revolution in Rioja: Remírez de Ganuza’s Pioneering Wines
(SOLD OUT)
Saturday 11th November | 2:15pm - 3pm
Remírez de Ganuza based in Samaniego, Álava, is one of Spain’s most innovative wine producers and has more than 80 hectares of prized vineyards across several sites in the foothills of the Cantabrian mountains.
Founder Fernando Remírez de Ganuza originally worked as a vineyard broker in Rioja Alavesa, giving him intricate knowledge of suitable plots for his namesake winemaking project, established in 1989. He also introduced a series of new techniques, from meticulous grape selection and cold rooms to a novel extraction method.
Jose Ramón Urtasun, the winery’s current owner, will lead a tasting of gems from the cellars, including Rioja Gran Reserva 2005 and Trasnocho 2010, plus magnums of Rioja Reserva 2012 and complex white wine Gran Reserva Blanco ‘Olagar’ 2015. Join us to learn more about the winery and its pioneering approaches.

With no previous experience in winemaking, he spent the first years observing and learning, and ended up falling in love with Remírez de Ganuza ́s philosophy, taking even further the love and respect for the vines and the winemaking process.
Today he leads the winery alongside Jesús Mendoza, Remírez de Ganuza's chief winemaker for more than 20 years. Jose Ramon Urtasun oversees every aspect of the winery's operations, from winemaking and commercial strategies, to marketing and
communications.
