Viña Santa Rita is one of Chile’s most emblematic producers of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its Casa Real label was among the country’s first icon wines, and the 1989 vintage has been named a Decanter Wine Legend. Located in Alto Jahuel, in the foothills of the Andes, the winery crafts Casa Real from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from an 18.5-hectare vineyard plot on the property.

Award-winning head winemaker Sebastián Labbé, who took the reins from Cecilia Torres in 2017, will lead guests through an exceptional tasting to discover more about the concept, development and characteristics of Casa Real. A mini vertical featuring the 1994, 2012 and 2020 vintages will help guests to explore Casa Real’s ageing potential, whilst three 2023-vintage component wines will reveal more about the DNA of this benchmark for premium wine in Chile.

Since his youth, Chile-born winemaker Sebastián Labbé has mixed his passion for oenology and sports, including surfing and cycling. He studied viticulture and oenology at Lincoln University in New Zealand, before working at Australia’s Tyrell’s and New Zealand’s Margrain Vineyard. In 2005, he became chief winemaker at Chile’s Viña Carmen, earning plaudits for premium wines with a strong sense of identity and terroir. In 2017, he became winemaker for Viña Santa Rita’s ultra-premium segment, including icon wine Casa Real Reserva Especial. He was named ‘Revelation Winemaker of the Year’ in the prestigious Descorchados 2020 guide, published by Chilean wine writer Patricio Tapia, who said, ‘Since his arrival at Santa Rita, in 2017, he has provoked a small revolution with risky wines, at the limit.’
