DECANTER PRESENTS... Fortemasso

Finding freshness in Barolo: Exploring the Castelletto MGA

Decanter invites you to an exclusive tasting experience delving into a special area of Barolo: the 5ha Castelletto vineyard, which is now registered as an MGA (menzione geografica aggiuntiva) in recognition of its exceptional quality and distinctive character.

Decanter will host Fortemasso, part of the Agricole Gussalli Beretta (AGB) group, which has over 50 years of history producing wines in some of Italy’s most renowned denominations.

As an introduction, the first flight will give an overview of Fortemasso today. Guests will sample the current releases of the producer’s three different Barolo wines: Barolo del Comune di Monforte DOCG, Barolo Castelletto DOCG and Barolo Castelletto Riserva DOCG.

The second flight, comprising five vintages between 2019 and 2013, will focus in on the famed Castelletto vineyard. The vintages will be presented not in chronological order, but instead organised by style and vintage conditions – allowing for a deeper appreciation of the Castelletto MGA.

THE HOSTS

Daniele Gaia

Daniele Gaia is AGB’s export sales manager, responsible for the seven Italian estates owned by the Gussalli Beretta family.

Born and raised in Roero in Piedmont, where he still lives today, Daniele graduated from the Oenological School of Alba in 2004 and began working as oenologist at the Oddero estate in La Morra. In 2009, he moved to Elvio Cogno, before becoming director of Réva, in Monforte d’Alba, in 2016. Fuelled by the desire to express his commercial vision to the full and take his passion for wine beyond the confines of Piedmont, he joined the AGB group in 2023.

Over the course of two decades of making wine in the region, he has developed an in-depth knowledge of the MGAs of the Langhe.

Tiziano Gaia

Tiziano Gaia is a writer, director and film producer from Turin in Piedmont.

From 2000 to 2008 he organised the publications and events of the international Slow Food movement, in particular the Slow Food-Gambero Rosso Italian Wines Guide and the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Guide.
