Join us at the Decanter Tasting Suite for an introduction to the DO Empordà wines of Perelada, an historical estate synonymous with the region’s evolution. With over 2000 years of viticultural tradition, Empordà lies between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, contrasting influences that shape the identity of the region and its wines. Perelada is nestled in the Empordà landscape, producing wines that speak of its land and deep-rooted legacy, seeking a balance between complexity and levity.

In this guided tasting, led by winemaker Delfí Sanahuja and Ines Salpico, Decanter’s Regional Editor for Spain, we’ll explore how soil diversity, the Tramontana wind, the Mediterranean sun and indigenous grape varieties build the singular character of the wines of Empordà. The comprehensive line-up (including the first vintage - 2001 - of the flagship Finca Garbet) will offer a unique overview of both the identity of DO Empordà and the ethos of Perelada.

THE HOSTS

DELFÍ SANAHUJA

Technical Manager and Winemaker

Delfí Sanahuja, one of Catalonia’s most respected winemakers, has shaped Perelada’s evolution since joining the estate in 1993. Working closely with Javier Suqué, he has been instrumental in defining the identity of Empordà wines, focusing on singular vineyards and the region’s distinctive Mediterranean character shaped by the Tramontane wind. A leading figure in Spanish viticulture, he sits on multiple technical committees and was named Best Catalan Winemaker in 2015, followed by the prestigious “Winemaker of Distinction” award in 2024. Sanahuja played a key role in designing Perelada’s state‑of‑the‑art winery, opened in 2022, and spearheads innovative projects such as the ExEx experimental wine series.

His work also champions sustainability, from water‑reuse initiatives to research on climate‑resilient viticulture.

INES SALPICO

Editor Spain, Portugal and South America

Ines is Decanter’s regional editor for Spain, Portugal and South America. Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, she grew up chasing her grandfather among his vines in Ribatejo and thus her love for all things wine began. After completing her Masters Degree in Architecture, Ines worked as a project manager while writing about wine and doing cellar consulting on the side. After moving to London nine years ago, she decided to dedicate herself fully to the wine industry and joined the sommelier team at Michelin-starred Spring, Somerset House. Stints at Noble Rot and The Laughing Heart followed, while completing her WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits.

Her work as a judge and writer eventually became her full time commitment and she joined Decanter in 2019 as wine database editor.
